The Legend of Silk

Legend has it that 5,000 years ago, a young Chinese empress named Leizu was drinking her fragrant tea in a garden beneath a large mulberry tree. Suddenly, a small white, round object fell into her hot cup. It was a silkworm cocoon. In the hot water, the cocoon began to unravel into an exceptionally fine, strong, and shimmering thread.

The beautiful Leizu recognized the extraordinary properties of this thread and pioneered the production of silk. The fabric was so luxurious that the secret of its creation was strictly guarded for centuries. Silk became the ultimate symbol of emperors and opulence—in some places, valued even higher than gold.
